Location
Piscina Irgas waterfall lies in the municipality of Villacidro in southern Sardinia, close to the boundary with Domusnovas and surrounded by peaks reaching about 700 metres. Alongside Sa Spendula and Muru Mannu it is one of the best-known falls in the municipality. The water drops in several steps into a deep pool — the "piscina" that gives the place its name — at the bottom of a wooded gorge. It is reached on a waymarked path through alders, holm oaks and oleanders, roughly two hours there and back from the forestry area. After heavy rain the fall is especially dramatic; in high summer the flow can drop sharply.
Highlights
- Deep pool at the foot of the drops
- Hike through a wooded gorge
- Peaks up to 700 metres all around
Tips
- The path crosses the stream several times — expect wet feet after rain.
- Swimming is risky: the pool is deep and the water cold.
