Lanusei

Lanusei is a significant municipality in the historic Ogliastra region of Sardinia with approximately 5,000 inhabitants. Together with Tortolì, the town serves as a co-capital of the Province of Ogliastra, playing a central role in regional administration. Geographically located in the eastern part of the island, it is set within a landscape shaped by its proximity to the coast and surrounding mountain areas. Despite its status as a provincial capital, the municipality has preserved an authentic character. Due to its modest population, it is statistically recognized as one of Italy's least populated provincial capitals, making it a peaceful center in the heart of Sardinia.

The town of Lanusei is situated in a strategic location in eastern Sardinia. It lies approximately 80 kilometres northeast of the regional capital, Cagliari. The distance to the coastal town of Tortolì is only ten to eleven kilometres to the northeast. This position provides convenient access to both the mountainous interior and the Tyrrhenian Sea. As an administrative hub of the Province of Ogliastra, Lanusei serves as an important regional junction, with its urban layout blending harmoniously into the surrounding hilly landscape.
