Location
The Calich is pond, lagoon and traditional fish trap in one, and ranks among the most important coastal wetlands of Alghero and of Sardinia. It sits between the town, Fertilia airport and the bay of Porto Conte, fed by several streams and linked to the sea by a short channel. The old Fertilia bridge and the cycle path along the shore make it one of the island's most accessible wetlands — reachable on foot or by bike straight from Alghero. Cormorants, herons and ducks are regular, with flamingos in winter; in late afternoon the silhouette of Capo Caccia reflects in the shallow water.
