Nuraghe Santu Milanu

Nuraghe Santu Millanu, also known simply as Santu Millanu, stands majestically on a gentle hilltop, dominating the picturesque hilly landscape between the Sarcidano and Marmilla regions in central-southern Sardinia. This remarkable prehistoric fortress is a testament to the advanced architecture of the Nuragic civilization and was intensely used for centuries, even into Roman times. Its strategic location once offered a wide view over the surrounding area.

The complex is a quadrilobate Nuraghe, consisting of a central mastio (tower) that still stands about six meters high. This central element is surrounded by a bastion that incorporates four angular towers. These four smaller towers are now barely discernible at ground level, but they allow one to imagine the original size and complexity of the structure. The edifice is an excellent example of a tholos-vaulted nuraghe, attesting to the engineering prowess of the Bronze Age.

Nuraghe Santu Millanu is a fascinating testament to the Nuragic culture and offers an insight into the island's archaeological past.
