Lake Gusana was created in 1961 by damming the Taloro between Gavoi, Ollolai and Lodine at about 640 metres. The reservoir sits in a granite and schist basin, its shores lined with downy oak, alder and holm oak. It is one of the few permanent inland lakes of the Barbagia and an important stop and drinking place for waterbirds and raptors. Shore paths and panoramic roads run around it; swimming is not allowed everywhere.
