Location
The Gulf of Orosei and Gennargentu National Park was established by presidential decree on 30 March 1998. Although formally created, it is not operational: its governing bodies were never constituted and the practical application of protection rules was deferred to a new state-region agreement under law 266/2005. The area nonetheless takes in the island's most imposing mountains — the Gennargentu with Punta La Marmora (1,834 m), high pastures, holm-oak woods and deep valleys — and the gleaming white cliffs and coves of the Gulf of Orosei. Hiking, climbing and coastal boat trips are the classic ways in.
