The Montes state forest in Orgosolo's Supramonte is regarded as one of Europe's largest continuous holm oak forests. Centuries-old trees grow on limestone and dolomite among karst features, dolines and springs such as Sa Funtana Bona, source of the Cedrino. Above the woodland rise the limestone monoliths of Monte Novo San Giovanni and Monte Fumai. The area is managed by the regional forest agency and shelters mouflon, wildcat and birds of prey.
