Capo Comino Dunes
Siniscola
A bright dune field at Sardinia's easternmost cape, framed by juniper and planted pines.
Location
Siniscola
Coordinates: 40.52840, 9.82820
Capo Comino is the easternmost point of Sardinia and holds one of the largest dune fields on the east coast. Very fine, pale sand is pushed inland by the mistral, forming low, constantly moving dune ridges. Behind them, juniper stands and an older pine plantation stabilise the sand. The white lighthouse on the granite outcrop marks the tip of the cape, with views across the bay to Tavolara island. The area is part of the Baronia coastal protection system.
Highlights
- Extensive pale dune field
- Sardinia's easternmost point with lighthouse
- Juniper and pine stands stabilising the dunes
Tips
- Stay on boardwalks and paths – the dune crests are unstable.
- With a strong mistral bring eye protection; the sand blows hard.
Best time
April to June and September/October.
Getting there
From Siniscola along the coast road to Capo Comino; car park at the entrance.
