Castello di Serravalle
The Castello di Serravalle, also known as Malaspina Castle, majestically overlooks Bosa, offering fascinating insights into Sardinia's medieval history.
Location
The Castello di Serravalle, often referred to as Malaspina Castle or simply Bosa Castle, is an impressive fortress bravely perched on the 81-meter-high Serravalle hill. Its walls and towers tell stories from the 12th century, when construction began in 1112. Originally built by the Malaspina family, the castle played a significant role in the defense of Bosa and the surrounding region.
Although time has taken its toll and large parts of the castle are in ruins, the robust walls, stretching over 352 meters and once featuring seven towers, are still impressive. One of the reconstructed towers and a small chapel with valuable, 700-year-old frescoes are now accessible to visitors, bearing witness to the site's former splendor.
The climb to the castle is rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic view over Bosa, the Temo River, and the glittering Mediterranean Sea. It is a place that uniquely combines history, culture, and scenic beauty, inviting visitors to linger and explore.
