Location
The Lequarci waterfalls lie near the hamlet of Santa Barbara in the municipality of Ulassai, in the Barbagia sub-region of Ogliastra, and are considered the most imposing falls on the island. After rain and during snowmelt the water spreads across a limestone wall more than a hundred metres wide and drops in countless strands — a spectacle you can hear from the road. In high summer, by contrast, the fall often dries out completely, leaving only the polished rock face. A short path leads from the car park to the foot of the wall, where shallow pools form. Ulassai is also known for Maria Lai's artworks and the Su Marmuri cave.
Highlights
- Fall face over 100 metres wide
- Highest flow after rain and snowmelt
- Short approach from the car park
Tips
- Often dry in July and August — less rewarding then.
- Rocks at the base are slippery; keep back from the water.
