The Capo Carbonara marine protected area lies in south-eastern Sardinia, covering the sea from Capo Boi to the waters off Serpentara island. It protects one of the island's richest coastal stretches: extensive Posidonia meadows, granite reefs, Isola dei Cavoli with its lighthouse and the sheltered coves around Villasimius. Divers find well-known sites such as the Secca di Santa Caterina and several wrecks, while snorkellers have clear shallows straight from the beach. Zoning governs anchoring, fishing and access — current rules are posted on the beaches and published by the managing authority in Villasimius.
