Soddì

Soddì is one of the smallest municipalities in Sardinia, located in the province of Oristano. The village is situated in the western part of the island, approximately 35 kilometers northeast of the provincial capital. With a population of just over 100 residents, the village offers a peaceful atmosphere within the historic Guilcer region. The settlement sits at an elevation of 250 meters above sea level and overlooks Lake Omodeo. Until the late 1970s, the locality was administratively linked to the neighboring municipality of Ghilarza before gaining full independence. The compact municipal area covers only about 5.4 square kilometers.

The history of Soddì is closely linked to the administrative structure of the Guilcer region. For a long time, the small settlement did not constitute an independent institutional entity but was subordinate to the larger municipality of Ghilarza as a hamlet. This situation changed only in 1979 when Soddì was granted the status of an autonomous municipality. Historically, the area belongs to the province of Oristano, and its geographical proximity to the Tirso River, along with the subsequent construction of the Lake Omodeo reservoir, significantly influenced the development of the area. In recent decades, the population has remained stable at low levels, preserving the village's rural character.

Soddì is located in a strategic position in central Sardinia, about 100 kilometers north of Cagliari. The municipality sits on a plateau at an elevation of 250 meters in the province of Oristano. The Guilcer region is characterized by its rolling hills. The municipal territory is very small, covering about 5.4 square kilometers, and borders directly on the shores of Lake Omodeo, one of Italy's largest artificial reservoirs. This location in the hinterland of the Gulf of Oristano shapes the village's climate and its accessibility via the regional road network.
