Overview

San Gavino Monreale is a significant municipality located in the heart of the Campidano plain within the Province of Sud Sardegna. With a population of approximately 7,800 inhabitants, the town serves as a central hub in the southwestern part of the island. Situated along the Rio Pardue river, the location acts as a vital link between the neighboring towns of Sanluri and Guspini. The town is characterized by its strategic positioning, located roughly halfway between the Sardinian capital of Cagliari and the city of Oristano. As part of the historical Medio Campidano region, San Gavino Monreale reflects the typical structure of agricultural settlements in the plain and remains a functional center for the surrounding area.

Location

The geographical location of San Gavino Monreale is defined by the vast Campidano plain. The town is situated approximately 45 kilometers northwest of Cagliari. Topographically, the municipal area is influenced by the course of the Rio Pardue river. San Gavino is nestled between the towns of Sanluri to the east and Guspini to the west. This positioning makes the municipality an important junction for transit traffic between the north and south of the island, particularly along the axis between Oristano and the Cagliari metropolitan area. Its integration into Sardinia's largest lowland significantly shapes the landscape and settlement structure of the entire region.
