Porto Torres

Porto Torres is located in north-west Sardinia and serves as a significant urban center within the Metropolitan City of Sassari. With a population of approximately 20,624 residents, the municipality covers an area of about 102.62 square kilometers. Positioned strategically in the Gulf of Asinara, the city is home to the island's second-largest seaport. The historical roots of Porto Torres date back to the 1st century BC. The city was founded under the name Colonia Iulia Turris Libisonis and holds a unique place in regional history as the first Roman colony established on the entire island of Sardinia. Over the centuries, the location evolved from an ancient outpost into a modern urban center, which is now part of the provincial industrial consortium. Geographically, Porto Torres is situated on the northwestern coast of Sardinia, nestled in the center of the Gulf of Asinara. The city is located approximately 25 kilometers east of Cape Falcone. Due to its immediate proximity to the city of Sassari, Porto Torres benefits from excellent infrastructure and connections to academic institutions. As part of the provincial industrial consortium and the Metropolitan City of Sassari, the municipality plays a key role in the North Sardinian transport network.
