Overview

Padria is one of the oldest villages in the Metropolitan City of Sassari, located in northwestern Sardinia. The municipality is nestled in a fertile valley within the Meilogu region, which belongs to the wider Logudoro area. With a current population of approximately 576 inhabitants, the village represents an authentic piece of the Sardinian hinterland. Geographically situated between the cities of Alghero and Sassari, the settlement offers a unique landscape, being set in a plain crossed by various watercourses. Padria combines historical depth with a peaceful, rural atmosphere that is characteristic of the island's hilly interior.

Location

The municipality of Padria covers an area of approximately 48 square kilometres within the Metropolitan City of Sassari. The village is located about 40 to 60 kilometres south of Sassari and around 50 kilometres from Alghero. The distance to the regional capital, Cagliari, in the southeast is approximately 140 kilometres. Padria occupies a strategic position in a valley of the Meilogu, a sub-region of Logudoro. This location in a fertile depression has significantly influenced the development of the settlement. The connection to the major urban centers of the province makes the municipality an important reference point in the less densely populated hinterland of the northwestern coastal regions.

Nature

The nature surrounding Padria is characterized by the fertile soils of Logudoro and a water-rich environment. The village is situated in a wide valley irrigated by the Temo river and its numerous tributaries. These river systems ensure a green and productive landscape that stands in contrast to drier regions of the island. A prominent geographical landmark near the municipality is Monte Minerva, which helps define the region's skyline. The combination of flat valley floors and adjacent elevations creates a diverse ecosystem typical of the northwestern hilly landscape of Sardinia.
