Overview

Ittiri is an Italian town located in the Metropolitan City of Sassari in Sardinia. The center is situated approximately 15 kilometers south of Sassari, within the historical region of Logudoro and specifically in the area of Coros. With a population between 7,700 and 7,800 inhabitants, Ittiri holds a prominent position in the northwest of the island. Since the year 2000, the municipality has officially held the title of 'Città'. It is characterized by its strategic location between significant water reservoirs and its proximity to the northwestern administrative hub. The surrounding area features a cultural landscape rich in history that continues to define the identity of the local population.

Location

The municipality of Ittiri is located in northwestern Sardinia, approximately 160 kilometers northwest of the regional capital, Cagliari. The urban area is nestled within the rolling hills of the historical Coros region. Geographically, it is notably positioned between two significant artificial water bodies: the Bacino Artificiale del Cuga to the west and Lago del Bidighinzu to the east. This location gives the surrounding area a distinct microclimatic character. The connection to Sassari is very close, with a distance of only 15 kilometers, making Ittiri an essential part of the metropolitan structure in the northern part of the island.

Nature

The natural environment surrounding Ittiri is significantly influenced by the presence of large bodies of water. The municipality is centrally located between the Bacino Artificiale del Cuga and Lago del Bidighinzu. These reservoirs do not only shape the landscape of the Logudoro region but also represent vital elements of the local hydrology. The surrounding area offers opportunities to observe the typical flora and fauna of the Sardinian hinterland in an environment enriched by water resources, providing a contrast to the often arid vegetation found elsewhere on the island.
