The geographical location of Fluminimaggiore is characterized by its setting within the Sulcis Iglesiente mountains. The municipality is located about 60 kilometers northwest of the island's capital, Cagliari. The town is separated from Carbonia by approximately 30 to 31 kilometers, while Iglesias is just 14 kilometers away to the south-southeast. A prominent feature of the surroundings is its inclusion in the protected Parco Geominerario Storico ed Ambientale della Sardegna. While the majority of the municipal territory is inland, Fluminimaggiore has direct access to the Mediterranean coast in the northwest, giving the location a distinct scenic diversity.
