The village has around 900 inhabitants and is situated approximately 30 kilometers southeast of Sassari and 150 kilometers north of Cagliari. Nestled within the historical region of Meilogu, Bonnanaro is characterized by its strategic inland location. The municipality is a member of the Unione dei comuni del Meilogu and the Distretto rurale del Mejlogu. Location

Bonnanaro is located in a geographically significant zone in northwestern Sardinia known as Meilogu. The municipality is part of the Metropolitan City of Sassari and borders the towns of Bessude, Borutta, Mores, Siligo, and Torralba.
