Supramonte
Orgosolo
A karst limestone plateau above Oliena, Orgosolo and Urzulei — gorges, dolines and ancient holm-oak woods.
Location
The Supramonte is a limestone massif in eastern Sardinia spanning the municipalities of Oliena, Orgosolo, Dorgali and Urzulei, protected within the Natura 2000 site "Supramonte di Oliena, Orgosolo e Urzulei – Su Sercone". The plateau is heavily karstic: dolines, cave systems and dry valleys define the landscape, while the Rio Flumineddu has cut the Gorropu gorge. Centuries-old holm oaks grow on the tablelands; griffon vultures and peregrine falcons nest in the walls, and mouflon and wild boar are common. Classic destinations include the Su Gologone spring, the Nuragic village of Tiscali in a collapse doline, and the high pastures of Sa Pruna. Off the waymarked paths, go only with a guide or solid local knowledge.
