Location
Ispinigoli Cave lies in the municipality of Dorgali in eastern Sardinia. Its landmark is a huge stalagmitic column linking the floor and roof of the entrance chamber across some 38 metres, among the tallest in Europe. The visit starts at a collapse doline, where a spiral staircase descends into the hall; from there galleries open out with flowstone pools and delicate helictites. Archaeological finds from the Abisso delle Vergini in the deeper section point to Phoenician-Punic use. Guided tours last about 45 minutes and run in bad weather too — the temperature inside stays constantly cool.
