Location
The archaeological complex of Sa Figu, first documented in 1961 by Ercole Contu, is a significant site in northern Sardinia. Here, millennia of history meet the mysterious Nuragic culture. The area testifies to the island's rich past and offers deep insights into prehistoric burial customs and cult practices.
The central element of the complex is the base of a Nuraghe, possibly even a Protonuraghe, flanked by an impressive megalithic circle. But the true heart is the necropolis with eleven Domus de Janas, the so-called "fairy houses." These rock-cut tombs are an impressive testament to the complex belief systems of the ancient inhabitants and reveal the engineering skills of the Nuragic period.
This site, which experienced at least three prehistoric phases, is located on the eponymous Sa Figu plateau near Ittiri. A visit allows one to experience the different facets of Nuragic civilization in a coherent context and to understand the significance of this place as a cultural and religious center of antiquity.
