Villa Verde

Villa Verde is a charming Sardinian village in the province of Oristano with a population of approximately 255 inhabitants. The municipality is located in the Alta Marmilla region, positioned on the northeastern slopes of the Monte Arci volcanic massif. Originally known as Bànnari, the village adopted its current name in 1954. This small settlement is characterized by its peaceful location about 25 kilometres southeast of the provincial capital Oristano and approximately 70 kilometres northwest of Cagliari. In the Sardinian language, the town is known as Bàini, defined by its setting at the foot of an extinct volcanic mountain range.

The history of the municipality is marked by several name changes that reflect the administrative evolution of the region. In earlier times, the village was known as Bànnari. In 1868, it was renamed Bànnari d'Usellus to highlight its connection to the nearby town of Usellus. It was not until 1954 that the municipality received its current official name, Villa Verde. This evolution demonstrates the gradual consolidation of the communal identity within the province of Oristano and the region of Sardinia during the 19th and 20th centuries.

Villa Verde is situated in a strategically interesting location within the Alta Marmilla. The municipality is located about 25 kilometres southeast of Oristano and is easily accessible via regional connections. The distance to the island's capital, Cagliari, to the south, is approximately 70 kilometres in a northwesterly direction. Geographically, the village lies on the northeastern slope of Monte Arci, a significant volcanic massif of the island that dominates the landscape of this region.

The nature surrounding Villa Verde is largely determined by the Monte Arci massif. This mountain range is of volcanic origin and gives the surroundings of Alta Marmilla a characteristic topography. Its position at the foot of this massif offers a diverse landscape typical of the Oristano region.
