Tresnuraghes

Tresnuraghes is situated on the prominent Planargia plateau in the province of Oristano, covering an area of approximately 31.5 square kilometres. The municipality is strategically located on the SS 292 state road, not far from the town of Bosa. With a population of about 1,000 residents, the village serves as a peaceful hub in northwestern Sardinia, located roughly 130 kilometres from the regional capital Cagliari and about 40 kilometres from Oristano. The name of the municipality is derived from the Sardinian language and translates to Three Nuraghes, indicating the prehistoric roots of the settlement landscape. Due to its elevated position, Tresnuraghes offers wide views over the surrounding region towards the coast.

The history of Tresnuraghes is closely linked to the security needs of Sardinian coastal inhabitants during the Middle Ages. The town was founded by people who originally lived directly by the sea but were forced to seek refuge in the safer hinterland due to constant raids by Saracens. The choice fell on the fertile and strategically located Planargia plateau. The etymology of the name also points to early settlement by the Nuragic culture, as the designation directly refers to three prehistoric tower structures.
