Monastir

Monastir is a Sardinian municipality located within the Metropolitan City of Cagliari. The town shares its name with significant cities in North Africa and the Balkans but remains a distinct administrative entity in the southern part of the Italian island of Sardinia. As part of the Sardinia region, the municipality is firmly integrated into the administrative structures of the province of Sud Sardegna. The name, often associated with monastic structures, is also found in a similar form in Tunisia and as the historical name for the Macedonian city of Bitola, highlighting the wide distribution of this toponym across the Mediterranean.
