Pranu 'e Mendola

The Archaeological Park of Pranu Muttedu, often called the 'Stonehenge of Sardinia,' is one of the most significant archaeological sites in the southeast of the island. It is situated on an extensive sandstone and schist plateau in the Gerrei region, southwest of the village of Goni. This megalithic sacred-funerary area attests to the profound spiritual and ritual importance this location held for the prehistoric inhabitants of Sardinia.

Spread across a gently undulating landscape, the site is characterized by an exceptional concentration of approximately 60 menhirs, standing individually or arranged in clusters. These upright stones, along with the unique circle tombs and Domus de Janas (fairy houses), formed an impressive necropolis. The burial sites of Pranu Siara, dating to the early pre-Nuragic period, offer fascinating insights into the burial rituals and complex social structures of these ancient cultures.
