Nestled in the fertile plain of Santa Lucia, near Bonorva, the Necropoli di Sant'Andrea Priu offers a captivating journey into Sardinia's prehistoric past. This archaeological treasure, dating back to the mid-4th millennium BCE, impressively represents the "Ozieri Culture."
The peculiar feature of the necropolis are the "Domus de Janas," literally "houses of the fairies." These rock-cut tombs are not only testaments to ancient burial rituals but also remarkable architectural achievements. Some burial chambers are so richly designed that they resemble actual dwellings, complete with columns, niches, and false doors.
Unique are the later additions from early Christian and Byzantine times. One of the tombs was converted into a church and adorned with remarkable frescoes. This layering of cultures makes Sant'Andrea Priu a place where millennia of Sardinian history become tangible.
