Fontana del Rosello

The Fontana del Rosello, located in the heart of Sassari, is one of Sardinia's most famous and ancient fountains. The first written mentions of this important structure date back to the 13th century, while its current form, an impressive Renaissance masterpiece made of white marble, was created in the 16th century. The fountain was originally located outside the old city walls, where it served as an important water source for the population.

The artistic design of the fountain is rich in symbolism. It consists of two superimposed rectangular blocks, rendered in simple white and gray tones. Water spouts from eight lion heads into a basin, while four statues depict the seasons. These allegorical figures symbolize the passage of time and give the fountain deeper meaning. A dolphin at the bottom also spouts water, contributing to the lively composition.
