On the basalt plateau of Golgo above Baunei opens Su Sterru, an almost vertical karst shaft about 270 metres deep and only some 40 metres wide. It formed when water dissolved the limestone beneath the basalt cover and the roof collapsed. It is one of the deepest single shafts in Europe and is protected by a fence; descent is reserved for equipped cavers. Around it lies grazing land with ancient junipers and free-roaming pigs and donkeys.

- Do not climb the fence – the rim is undercut.
