At 1,834 metres, Punta La Marmora is the highest point in Sardinia. The summit lies in the Gennargentu massif above Desulo and Arzana; the bare schist ridges carry only cushion shrubs and dwarf juniper, with holm oak and alder woods lower down. On clear days the view stretches from the east coast to the Gulf of Oristano. Snow is common in winter. The summit area belongs to the Gennargentu park and is home to mouflon and birds of prey.
