Location
Su Marmuri Cave lies in the municipality of Ulassai in Ogliastra, beneath the distinctive limestone tacco that towers over the village, and is considered one of the most imposing cavities in Europe. The main visitable gallery runs several hundred metres and exceeds 30 metres in height in places, linking chambers such as the Sala delle Colonne and the Sala delle Cascate. Hundreds of steps lead down past columns, flowstone pools and calcite draperies. In winter the cave shelters hibernating bat colonies, so visiting hours are seasonally regulated. Above the cave lie the climbing crags of Ulassai and the path to the Lequarci waterfalls.
