The Castello della Fava, also known as "Casteddu de sa Fae", is one of Sardinia's best-preserved medieval fortresses, located in the charming village of Posada, in the northeast of the island. The imposing, approximately 20-meter-high tower, dating from the 12th or 13th century, picturesquely crowns a limestone hill and is visible from afar.

The castle was an important military stronghold of the Giudicato of Gallura and played a significant role in the region's history. Its unusual name is also linked to an old legend, which says that during a siege, the inhabitants threw fava beans (Fave) from the castle to feign strength and resilience. Its strategic location once offered an excellent overview of the surrounding land and the coast.

Today, the Castello della Fava is a fascinating testament to bygone eras and a popular destination for history enthusiasts and hikers. It is easily accessible and, despite its historical depth, is in a high state of preservation. From its heights, one can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views over Posada, the coast, and the Sardinian hinterland.
