The marine protected area covers the Sinis coast from Capo San Marco to Su Pallosu, the uninhabited island of Mal di Ventre and the Catalano rock. Granite platforms, quartz-pebble beaches and extensive Posidonia meadows characterise the seabed; gulls and terns breed ashore and migrants stop over in spring. Zoning ranges from the strictly protected zone A around Mal di Ventre to areas with regulated swimming, snorkelling and diving.
