Tinnura

Überblick

The small village of Tinnura is located in western Sardinia in the province of Oristano and is part of the ancient sub-region of Planargia. With a small population of approximately 250 residents, the municipality is characterized by its unique settlement structure, merging seamlessly with the neighboring town of Flussio. The village has established itself as a cultural destination in the region through its artistic design, particularly its famous murals. Covering an area of less than four square kilometers, the community offers travelers an authentic glimpse into island village life, away from mass tourism. Its favorable location near the west coast makes Tinnura an interesting stopover while traveling through the Sardinian hills.

Lage

Tinnura is located in a strategic position approximately 40 to 40.5 kilometers north of the provincial capital Oristano. The distance to Cagliari in the southeast is about 130 kilometers. Geographically, the village is nestled in the hilly landscape of Planargia and is only about 5.5 kilometers away from the Mediterranean coast. A unique feature of its location is the infrastructural connection: the village shares its main thoroughfare, the State Road 292 (Strada Statale 292), directly with the adjacent town of Flussio, making the boundary between the two municipalities almost imperceptible to visitors. The municipal area covers a compact surface of about 3.8 square kilometers.

Kultur

The cultural identity of Tinnura is inextricably linked to its artistic character. The municipality is famous far beyond its borders for its murals—large-scale wall paintings that decorate the village facades. These artworks turn the village into a kind of open-air museum and often reflect local life and Sardinian traditions. The urban continuity with the neighboring village of Flussio shapes the social fabric, with the shared main street serving as the cultural and public center. Despite its small size, the place preserves its authentic character as part of Planargia, a region valued for its cultural heritage in the province of Oristano.
