Overview

Samassi is a town of approximately 4,700 inhabitants located in the province of Sud Sardegna, within the historic Medio Campidano area. Situated about 35 to 38 kilometers northwest of the regional capital, Cagliari, the municipality sits along the banks of the Flumi Mannu river. Its location is defined by its role as a transit point on the Cagliari-Golfo Aranci railway line. Positioned near other significant towns like Sanluri and Villacidro, Samassi is a quintessential Sardinian village that reflects the agricultural heritage and geographical openness of the vast Campidano plain.

Location

The municipality of Samassi is situated in an advantageous geographical position within the Medio Campidano province. It lies approximately 9 kilometers south of Sanluri and about 14 kilometers northwest of Villacidro. The local landscape is significantly defined by the Flumi Mannu river, which flows through the area. A vital infrastructure component is the Cagliari-Golfo Aranci railway line passing through the town, providing direct access to the island's major ports and urban centers. The surrounding region is characterized by the flat topography of the Campidano plain, which has historically supported mobility and local development across the territory.

Nature

The natural environment of Samassi is primarily shaped by the course of the Flumi Mannu river. This river serves as the central hydrographic feature of the region, influencing the ecological conditions of the otherwise flat Campidano plain. The surrounding area is characterized by vast, open spaces typical of this fertile part of Sardinia. While the riverbanks provide valuable habitats, the agricultural plain dominates the landscape, highlighting the municipality's character as a community integrated into the water-rich lowlands of the southern part of the island.
