Geschichte

The history of Orroli dates back to prehistoric times, evidenced by the presence of monumental structures such as the Nuraghe Arrubiu. This complex is renowned for being the only intact example of a five-tower nuraghe in Sardinia, marking the region's architectural importance in antiquity. The name of the municipality is derived from the downy oak, referencing the original vegetation and the long settlement history in the Sarcidano. In modern times, the village has developed while preserving its historical character, particularly through the repurposing of old estates for tourism, while the construction of dams in the 20th century permanently altered the landscape and economic structure of the area.
