Überblick

Mogorella is a small Sardinian municipality in the province of Oristano with about 390 inhabitants. The village, known as Mogoredda in the Sardinian language, is nestled in the historical region of Alta Marmilla. It is located approximately 25 kilometers east of the provincial capital Oristano and about 80 kilometers northwest of Cagliari. The settlement is characterized by its quiet location on the northeastern edge of the Monte Arci massif. Mogorella offers visitors an authentic glimpse into the rural life of Sardinia, shaped by deep cultural roots and a history of settlement spanning millennia, reflected in the striking archaeological sites nearby.

Geschichte

The history of settlement in Mogorella dates back to prehistoric times, as evidenced by the significant nuragic finds in the municipal area. Three central structures document the Nuragic civilization in this region: the nuraghes Friarosu, Luas, and Fenogu. These prehistoric tower structures are evidence of a complex social organization and defensive strategy of the early inhabitants of Sardinia. While contemporary history is marked by its affiliation with the province of Oristano, the cultural heritage remains closely linked to its geographical location in Alta Marmilla. The permanence of the village structure over centuries has contributed to the preservation of the region's historical traces to this day.

Lage

Geographically, Mogorella is located on the northeastern slope of the volcanic Monte Arci massif. The municipal territory belongs to the Alta Marmilla subregion, a landscape characterized by rolling hills and fertile plains. The distance to the coast and the city of Oristano is about 25 kilometers, making the village a retreat in the hinterland. The connection to the regional capital Cagliari is via a route of about 80 kilometers in a southeasterly direction. This location offers a strategic link between the mountainous zones of the interior and the agricultural areas of the Marmilla plain.

Natur

The immediate surroundings of Mogorella are significantly influenced by the Monte Arci massif. This volcanic mountain group provides a varied topography and specific flora and fauna in the Alta Marmilla region. The landscape is characterized by the transition zone between the rocky foothills of Monte Arci and the surrounding agricultural land.

Kultur

The cultural heritage of Mogorella focuses primarily on the archaeological sites of the Nuragic period. With the sites of Friarosu, Luas, and Fenogu, the municipality possesses significant monuments of Sardinian prehistory. These places reflect the local identity and the historical awareness of the residents, who often maintain their traditions through the use of the Sardinian language under the name Mogoredda.
