Überblick

Dolianova is a significant town in the Metropolitan City of Cagliari, serving as a key reference point for neighboring communities in the historical region of Parteolla. With a population of over 9,300, it is located approximately 19 kilometers north-northeast of Cagliari. The municipality currently hosts the headquarters of the Union of Municipalities of Parteolla and Basso Campidano. The economic landscape is deeply rooted in agriculture and the processing of local raw materials, supported by a well-organized industrial zone focused on livestock and crop transformation. Established in the early 20th century through the merger of two separate entities, the town has since become a central hub for the inland area of southern Sardinia.

Geschichte

The modern history of Dolianova is inextricably linked to June 25, 1905, the official date of the municipality's establishment. On this day, the fusion of the two formerly independent centers, Sicci San Biagio and San Pantaleo, took place. This administrative merger laid the foundation for the town's current prominence. The origins of the name 'Dolianova' remain obscure, though etymological theories often suggest a connection to the Latin term 'Pars Olea', potentially referencing the long-standing tradition of olive cultivation in the area. The region's history has always been shaped by agricultural land use, which has served as the primary livelihood for residents for centuries and significantly directed the community's growth.

Lage

Dolianova is situated in a strategic position in the southern part of Sardinia, nestled within the rolling hills of the Parteolla region. The municipality is part of the Metropolitan City of Cagliari, located just 19 kilometers from the island's capital. Due to this proximity, Dolianova acts as an important bridge between the urban coastal zone and the agricultural inland. Serving as a central point for smaller neighboring towns, it fulfills a service function and hosts the Union of Municipalities of Parteolla and Basso Campidano. The geographical setting is defined by fertile plains, which provide the foundation for the region's economic focus.
